Water-based mud additives (WBM)
G-DRILL® is a polyglycol shale inhibitor. Protects clay minerals from swelling. “Clouds out” within the shale matrix and causes pore plugging and preventing pore pressure transmission. Promotes cuttings integrity, helps their disposal at the shale shakers. Improves mud lubricity and anti-balling properties.
TERRAPAN® is a sodium polyacrylate copolymer synthetic filtration control agent used in freshwater, sea water and monovalent brines (up to 5% NaCl), stable at high temperature environment (up to 200C).
POLYCAP® is a shale inhibitor/ solids encapsulating polymer for water-based drilling fluids. It is a water soluble product of polyacrylamide and sodium acrylate copolymerization. POLYCAP® is an anionic polymer meaning it is attracted to the clays cationic surfaces and encapsulates them with the polymeric film. It is used in freshwater, seawater, NCl and KCl mud systems.
MAX-FLEX® is a modified, synthetic styrene-butadiene latex, easily dispersible in water. Stabilizes shale formations, prevents clay minerals hydration and lowers the mud fluid loss. Forms a membrane on the wellbore wall, encapsulates the cuttings with a strong film, preventing disintegration.
KLA-FREE® - liquid polyamine shale inhibitor. It is a mildly cationic low molecular weight polymer supplied as a highly active aqueous solution. Protects water-sensitive shales and clays by decreasing the shale tendency to absorb water, suppress clay minerals hydration. Inhibition mechanism is similar to K+ ions, but in this case NH4+ plays a role of an agent that suppress interlayer water absorption.
SHALE-X® is a water soluble organic material based on methyltrimethoxysilane. Designed to suppress shales and clays hydration process – both cuttings and wellbore wall. Forms a protective complex on the clay minerals, prevents water invasion into the shale matrix.
POLYTROL® is a new generation organic polyamine shale inhibitor – ether amines. It is a key inhibitive ingredient of the new HPWBM - high-performance water-based muds. This type of mud has comparable inhibitive properties to oil-based mud (OBM).
